Gunnery Sgt. Hinds currently serves as the drum major for the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve Band. In this capacity he directs, trains, and manages the musical performance of the ceremonial band while on the march and instructs band personnel in drill specific to Marine bands. Gunnery Sgt. Hinds also manages the band’s administration and operations sections.
Gunnery Sgt. Hinds holds a Bachelor of Science in Music with a minor in History from Eastern New Mexico University.
Gunnery Sgt. Hinds enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2013 and completed Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California and Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California. He completed the Basic Music Course in 2014 at the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Gunnery Sgt. Hinds served as a euphonium and bass guitar instrumentalist in the following fleet Marine bands: III Marine Expeditionary Force Band (2014-2016); 1st Marine Division Band (2016-2018); and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band (2019-2022). As do all fleet Marine musicians, Gunnery Sgt. Hinds served in a variety of musical ensembles, collateral duties, and leadership roles, to include platoon leadership.
From 2022-2025, he served as a drill instructor with Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.
Gunnery Sgt. Hinds was promoted to his current rank in 2024 and served as the drum major the following fleet Marine band: 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band (2020-2022).
Gunnery Sgt. Hinds attended the Unit Leader Course (2018-2019), Advanced Musician Course (2025) and is a graduate of the Advanced School (2024). His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2nd award), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3rd award).
