Staff Sgt. Joshua Chavez currently serves as the instrument repair technician of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band. In this capacity he inspects, maintains, and repairs musical equipment. Staff Sgt. Chavez also manages the band’s supply, safety, and fiscal sections.
Staff Sgt. Chavez enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2015 and completed Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California and Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California. He completed the Basic Music Course in 2016 at the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Staff Sgt. Chavez served as a French horn instrumentalist in the following fleet Marine bands: Parris Island Marine Band (2016-2019); and the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band (2023-2024). As do all fleet Marine musicians, Staff Sgt. Chavez served in a variety of music, collateral duty, and leadership roles, to include platoon leadership.
From 2020-2023, he served as a recruiter with Recruiting Station Phoenix. Staff Sgt. Chavez is a ground safety officer.
Staff Sgt. Chavez was promoted to his current rank in 2022 and attended the band instrument repair program at Minnesota State College Southeast in Red Wing, Minnesota, earning an associate’s degree with honors in 2025.
His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
