Staff Sergeant Devon R. King
Marine Detachment Naval School of Music
Staff Sergeant King was born and raised in Rochester, NY. She studied music at Ithaca College and graduated in 2012 with degrees in Music Education and Clarinet Performance. She enlisted in the Marine Corps and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in January 2016. After graduating from boot camp, SSgt King attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina in May 2016. She then attended the Basic Music Course at the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, VA from June – November 2016.

After graduating from the Naval School of Music, SSgt King reported to the Second Marine Aircraft Wing Band, Cherry Point, NC in November 2016 for duty as a Clarinet Instrumentalist. During her time there, SSgt King also served as Clarinet Section Leader and Assistant Operations Chief.

In July 2018, SSgt King was transferred to the Marine Forces Reserve Band in New Orleans, LA. She served as Clarinet Section Leader, Operations Chief, and Sergeant of the Guard. During her time with the Marine Forces Reserve Band, SSgt King was also featured as a solo Bagpiper several times with the Concert Band and Popular Music Group.

In May 2021, SSgt King reported to the Parris Island Marine Band, where she served as Acting Enlisted Conductor, Clarinet Instrumentalist, Woodwind Section Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and Training NCOIC. She was once again featured as a solo Bagpiper for over 25 performances, both locally and on tour across the east coast. Additionally, SSgt King completed the Martial Arts Instructor Course at Leatherneck Square in May 2024.

SSgt King returned to the Naval School of Music in August 2024 to attend the Unit Leader Course. She graduated from the ULC in April 2025 and completed the Navy Instructor Training Course in May 2025. SSgt King is currently serving at the Naval School of Music as a Basic Academics Instructor.
