Staff Sergeant Michael J. Borowski
Marine Detachment Naval School of Music
Staff Sergeant Michael Borowski was born January 4, 1988. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in July 2014. After completing recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, NC and Marine Combat Training at Camp LeJeune, NC, he reported to the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, VA.
After graduation, LCpl Borowski was assigned to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego as a guitar instrumentalist. During this time, he served as squad leader as well as the administrative section NCOIC. LCpl Borowski performed frequently with the All-Star Jazz Orchestra throughout southern California and enjoyed participating in Marine Weeks across the country as well as numerous NFL halftime shows.
In August 2018, Sgt Borowski began his tour overseas at the III Marine Expeditionary Force Band in Okinawa, Japan. During two consecutive tours he served as Platoon Sergeant, Rhythm Section Leader, Popular Music Group ensemble leader, Arranger SNCOIC, Unit Transition Coordinator and Assistant Unit Mail Officer. As Action Officer, he coordinated logistics for two international tours in support of US Embassy Independence Day celebrations in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. In 2021, SSgt Borowski was selected as Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Musician of the Year. In April 2022, the III MEF Band deployed in support of Combined Command Post Training 22.1 where he served as assistant Sergeant of the Guard.
In August 2024, SSgt Borowski reported for duty as guitar instructor at the Naval School of Music where he currently teaches Jazz Improvisation and Rhythm Section Master Class.
SSgt Borowski holds a Masters of Music in Guitar Performance from Duquesne University which is located in Pittsburgh, PA. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (second award) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (second award).
