Sergeant Josiah Q. Rushing
Marine Detachment Naval School of Music
Sgt Rushing was born on July 16, 1991, in Griffin, GA. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 2020. After completing recruit training at MCRD San Diego, CA and Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, CA, he reported directly to the Quantico Marine Band in Quantico, VA.
In February 2021, Private First Class Rushing was assigned to the Quantico Marine Band in Quantico, VA for duty as a Percussion Instrumentalist. As a Lance Corporal, he was assigned to the Security Augmentation Force during Operation Allies Welcome. Additionally, he was meritoriously promoted to Corporal in June 2022. During his tour, Sergeant Rushing performed with the Ceremonial Band, Concert Band, Brass Band, Rock Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Combo, and Big Band for audiences across the United States and abroad. Furthermore, he served in the billets of Information Systems Coordinator, Percussion Section Leader, and Martial Arts Instructor.
In June 2024, Sgt Rushing received orders to his current assignment at the Marine Detachment, Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, VA to serve as the Percussion Instrumental Instructor. While there, he completed the Facilitating Learning Experiences Certification in July 2024 and earned the BMOS of 0951 Formal Schools Instructor. From July 2024 to now, Sergeant Rushing fulfills the duties of Percussion Instrumental Instructor. He also fulfills the duties of Unit Historian, Command Physical Training Representative, and Martial Arts Instructor.
Sgt Rushing’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He holds a Master of Music in Music Performance.
