Corporal Bryan J. Patterson

Corporal Patterson was born on April 6th, 1993, in Austin, TX. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 2021. After completing recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, SC and Marine Combat Training at Camp Gieger, NC, he reported to the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, VA for “A” school training as a Basic Musician and earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 5524 Musician.

Upon graduation from the Basic Music Course in June 2022, Lance Corporal Patterson was assigned to the Marine Forces Reserve (MARFORRES) Band in New Orleans, LA for duty as a Tuba Instrumentalist. While there, he was promoted to Corporal in November 2023. During his tour, Corporal Patterson performed with the MARFORRES Band’s Ceremonial Band, Concert Band, Brass Quintet and Brass Band for audiences across North and South America. Most notably, Corporal Patterson was the Unit Leader for the Brass Band, in charge of coordinating rehearsals and performances for the group. Additionally, he served in the billets of NCOIC of Defense Travel System, Brass Commander and Tuba Section Leader.

In November 2024, Corporal Patterson received orders to his current assignment at MARDET Little Creek in Virginia Beach, VA to serve as the Tuba Instrumental Instructor. While there, he completed the Navy Instructor Training Course in April 2025 and earned the BMOS of 0951 Formal Schools Instructor.

Corporal Patterson holds a Master of Music degree in Music Performance-Tuba from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance-Tuba from Texas A&M University-Commerce. His primary instructors are Timothy Northcut, Charles Villarrubia, Dr. Jeff Baker and Michael Morrow.
