Gunnery Sergeant Timothy Scherer is currently serving as the Instrumentalist Assignments / Operations Chief for Marine Corps Fleet Music, Communication Directorate, Headquarters Marine Corps.

Gunnery Sergeant Scherer enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2007 and completed Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. He subsequently completed the Basic Music Course in the same year at the Armed Forces School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Gunnery Sergeant Scherer served as an instrumentalist in the following Fleet Marine Bands: Parris Island Marine Band (2007-2011; 2021-2024); Quantico Marine Corps Band (2011-2015); and Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band (2018-2020). Gunnery Sergeant served in a variety of music, collateral duty, and leadership roles, to include Platoon leadership.

Gunnery Sergeant Scherer graduated the Basic Recruiter Course in 2014 as was assigned as a Canvassing Recruiter at Recruiting Station Harrisburg (2015-2018).

Gunnery Sergeant Scherer is a graduate of the Unit Leader Course (2021) from the Naval School of Music.
