Acting Drum Major
Staff Sergeant Lucas Devalder
ff Sergeant Lucas T. DeValder was born on June 13, 1995 in Batavia, NY. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in July of 2013 where he attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. During that time, Private DeValder was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class. Following graduation, he attended Marine Combat Training in Camp Geiger, North Carolina. He received orders to Virginia Beach to attend the Naval School of Music. During the school, Private First Class DeValder was promoted to Lance Corporal on February 1, 2014. In June of 2014, Lance Corporal DeValder reported to the 2D Marine Division Band, Headquarters Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he assumed his duties as a Trumpet Instrumentalist, Sound Clerk, Training Clerk, and Administration clerk. On September 1, 2014, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal. On September 4, 2015, Cpl DeValder graduated Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival Course on Camp Johnson, North Carolina. On November 6, 2015, Corporal DeValder graduated Corporals Course as the Honor Graduate and Iron Man. As a trumpet instrumentalist, Cpl DeValder was hand selected to be the bugler to perform Taps for the 98th Anniversary of the Belleau Wood Memorial in France. He also assumed the position as the NCO Drum Major and took multiple marching commitments; Relief and Appointments, Change of Commands, Retirements, and the Holiday Parade of New Bern. On October 1, 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. On January 14, 2017, Sergeant DeValder reported to Marine Band San Diego, San Diego, California where he assumed the positions of Assistant Drum Major, Platoon Sergeant, Administration NCOIC, Training NCOIC, MCIWS, Corporal Course and Lance Corporal Seminar Instructor, and Trumpet Instrumentalist. During this time, he completed Sergeant School. As the Assistant Drum Major, Sgt DeValder led the band on the march for RTR Colors and Graduation Ceremonies, Change of Commands, and Parades to include the Mother Goose Parade, San Diego St. Patrick's Day Parade, and the Coronado Holiday Parade. In March of 2020, Sergeant DeValder reported to Basic Recruiter Course. Following graduation, he reported to RS San Diego to be a canvassing recruiter in RSS Pearl City, HI. In January of 2021, Sergeant DeValder was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After 18 months of canvassing recruiting, he reported to Honolulu Military Enlistment Processing Station to assume the duties as the Marine Liaison. In May of 2023, Staff Sergeant DeValder reported to Security Battalion, Quantico Marine Band, Virginia where he serves as the Drum Major and Trumpet Instrumentalist. Staff Sergeant DeValder's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3rd award), and Recruiting Ribbon.
