Enlisted Conductor
Staff Sergeant Joseph E. Tutor
Staff Sergeant Joseph Tutor was born in Orange, CA. He attended Loara High School in Anaheim, CA graduating in 2007. He then pursued a Bachelor of Music in clarinet Performance at California State University, Fullerton graduating Summa Cum Laude. He furthered his education by obtaining a master’s degree in Clarinet Performance from the University of Michigan. Upon graduation, he returned to California earning an Artist Diploma from California State University, Fullerton in 2015. After several years of free lancing and teaching throughout Southern California, he joined the United States Marine Corps shipping to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in January 2017.

Upon completion of Marine Combat Training Lance Corporal Tutor received orders to Marine Band San Diego in San Diego where he served as a clarinet instrumentalist and Assistant Enlisted Conductor. He was also promoted to the ranks of Corporal then Sergeant while stationed at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.

In 2020 Sergeant Tutor was transferred to the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band in Miramar, CA where he served as a clarinet instrumentalist and Assistant Enlisted Conductor. In September of 2022 Sergeant Tutor received orders to attend the Unit Leaders Course at the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, VA. Upon completion of the course, he received orders to the 1st Marine Division Band where he was promoted to his current rank of Staff Sergeant in November of 2023. He currently serves as the Enlisted Conductor of the First Marine Division Band.

Staff Sergeant Tutor’s personal decorations include the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Marine Corps Achievement Medal, gold star in lieu of second award.
