Gunnery Sergeant Timothy J. Scherer
GySgt. Timothy Scherer is a native of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in January of 2007 and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon completion of Recruit Training and Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, Pfc. Scherer attended the Basic Musician’s Course of Instruction at the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia. While there, he was promoted to Lance Corporal.

In November of 2007, LCpl. Scherer was assigned to the Parris Island Marine Band on Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. While stationed there, he served as a Percussion Section Leader, Percussion Instrumentalist, Squad Leader and Library Chief, and was promoted to the rank of Corporal. Through his dedication to mission accomplishment, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. in March of 2009 and received orders for his next assignment.

In July of 2011, Sgt. Scherer was assigned to the Quantico Marine Corps Band in Quantico, VA where he served as the Percussion Section Leader, Squad Leader, Public Affairs Chief, Loading Chief, Transportation Clerk, and Supply Clerk. In October of 2014, Sgt. Scherer was selected for Recruiting Duty. Before graduating the Basic Recruiter’s Course in San Diego, CA, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In February of 2015, SSgt. Scherer reported to Recruiting Station Harrisburg for Recruiting Duty where he served as a canvassing recruiter in Downingtown, Pennsylvania from February of 2015 until March of 2018.  

In March of 2018, SSgt. Scherer was assigned to the Marine Corps Forces, Pacific Band in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. While stationed there he served as an Acting-Drum Major, Operations Chief, Platoon Sergeant, Percussion Section Leader, Range Safety Officer, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Victim Advocate, and Percussion Instrumentalist. In September of 2020, SSgt. Scherer was selected to attend the Unit Leader Couse at the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia. SSgt. Scherer graduated the Unit Leader Course in April of 2021. In June of 2021, SSgt. Scherer checked in to his current duty station at the Parris Island Marine Band on Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina where he was promoted to his current rank of Gunnery Sergeant. in June of 2021, as well as selected for his current billet as Drum Major.

GySgt. Scherer’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
