Gunnery Sgt. Geoffrey Parks currently serves as the drum major of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band. In this capacity he directs, trains, and manages the musical performance of the ceremonial band while on the march and instructs band personnel in drill specific to Marine bands. Gunnery Sgt. Parks also manages the band’s administration and operations sections.
Gunnery Sgt. Parks enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2007 and completed Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California and Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California. He completed the Basic Music Course in 2008 at the Armed Forces School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Gunnery Sgt. Parks served as a percussion instrumentalist in the following fleet Marine bands: Albany Marine Band (2008-2011); Marine Band San Diego (2011-2014); and the 1st Marine Division Band (2014-2016). As do all fleet Marine musicians, Gunnery Sgt. Parks served in a variety of music, collateral duty, and leadership roles, to include platoon leadership.
From 2017-2021, Gunnery Sgt. Parks served as an instructor at the Naval School of Music.
Gunnery Sgt. Parks attended the Unit Leader Course (2017), Sound Reinforcement Course (2012), Advanced Musician Course (2024) and is a graduate of the Advanced School Seminar (2024). Gunnery Sgt. Parks was a 2018 Recipient of the Colonel Finley R. Hamilton Outstanding Military Musician Award. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2nd Award), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Award.
