Captain Steve Talbot currently serves as Head, Marine Corps Fleet Music, where he directs and oversees Occupational Field and Program management matters, as well as service-level strategic music outreach of the Marine Corps Fleet Bands on behalf of the Director of Communication, Communication Directorate, Headquarters Marine Corps.
Captain Talbot enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 2003 and completed Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina and Marine Combat Training at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina. He subsequently completed the Basic Music Course in 2003 at the Armed Forces School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Captain Talbot served as an instrumentalist in the following Fleet Marine Bands: 2d Marine Aircraft Wing Band (2004-2008); Quantico Marine Corps Band (2008-2009); Albany Marine Band (2010-2012); and 2nd Marine Division Band (2012-14). As do all Fleet Marine musicians, Captain Talbot served in a variety of music, collateral duty, and leadership roles, to include Platoon leadership.
Captain Talbot deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2007). In 2014, Captain Talbot served as an Instructor at the Naval School of Music.
Captain Talbot graduated from The Basic School in 2018 and served as the Principal Director / Officer-In-Charge of the following Fleet Marine Bands: Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band (2018-2022) and Marine Forces Reserve Band (2022-2024).
Captain Talbot attended the Unit Leader Course (2009), Sound Reinforcement Course (2012), Senior Musician Course (2017) and is a distinguished graduate of Expeditionary Warfare School (2021). Captain Talbot was the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Musician of the Year (2016) and the recipient of the Colonel George S. Howard Citation of Musical Excellence for Military Concert Bands (2022).
