WO Tompo currently serves as the Officer in Charge (OIC) for the Parris Island Marine Band. She has served in this capacity since June 2023.
WO Tompo is a native of Coppell, Texas. She enlisted in the Marine Corps in October of 2009 and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, Marine Combat Training, then the Basic Musician’s Course at the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
In September of 2010, LCpl Tompo was assigned to the III Marine Expeditionary Force Band in Okinawa, Japan. In January of 2011, she was promoted to the rank of Corporal and in March of 2012 to the rank of Sergeant. While stationed in Okinawa, Sgt Tompo served in the capacity of Clarinet Instrumentalist, Section Leader, Acting Enlisted Conductor, Fiscal and Purchasing Chief, and featured soloist.
In January 2014, Sgt Tompo reported to the Naval School of Music to attend the Unit Leader Course. Upon graduation, she was assigned as the Clarinet Instructor, Chamber Group Instructor, and Chamber Chief. In October of 2015, Sgt Tompo was named the Junior Instructor of the Year for the Naval School of Music. In November of 2015, Sgt Tompo was named the Marine Musician of the Year for Fiscal Year 2015 and in October of 2016, SSgt Tompo was named Junior Instructor of the Year for Center of Service Support as well as Marine Corps Intelligence Schools. Across her time at the school of music, she provided additional support as a Clarinet Instrumentalist to the 2D Marine Aircraft Wing Band, Parris Island Marine Band, and Marine Forces Reserve Band in both national level and international performances. In September 2017, SSgt Tompo reported to the Senior Musician Course and graduated in May 2018, and later was assigned as the Platoon Sergeant and Detachment Gunnery Sergeant.
In July 2019, SSgt Tompo reported to the Basic Recruiter Course in San Diego, California and graduated in August 2019. SSgt Tompo checked in to the 6th Marine Corps District to serve in the capacity of Musician Technical Assistant. In February of 2020, SSgt Tompo was selected for the NMOS of Enlisted Conductor. In August 2022, SSgt Tompo was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and selected for her current rank and billet.
WO Tompo was appointed to her current rank in February 2023 and assigned to her current role as Officer in Charge of the Parris Island Marine Band in June 2023.
WO Tompo’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4th award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd award), Good Conduct Medal (4th award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3rd award), and the Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
