Gunnery Sergeant Daniel J. Hackenberger
GySgt. Daniel Hackenberger is a native of Abington, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in June of 2004 and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion of Recruit Training and Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, Pfc. Hackenberger attended the Basic Musician’s Course of Instruction at the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia. While there, he was promoted to Lance Corporal.
In September of 2005, LCpl. Hackenberger was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division Band in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While stationed there he served as a Percussion Instrumentalist, Percussion Section Leader, and Administrative Chief and was promoted to the rank of Corporal. From February of 2007 to September of 2007, he was forward deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08 with 2nd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment to Camp Fallujah, Iraq. After his return, he was promoted to the rank of Sgt.
In November of 2008, Sgt. Hackenberger was assigned to the Albany Marine Band in Albany, GA where he served as the Percussion Section Leader, Supply Chief, and Acting-Instrument Repair Technician. In May of 2011 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and graduated from Darton State College with his Associates of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems.
In June of 2012, SSgt. Hackenberger was selected for Recruiting Duty where he served as a canvassing Recruiter in Lansdale, Pennsylvania from June of 2012 until January of 2014. In February of 2014, SSgt. Hackenberger was assigned to be the Staff Non-Commissioned Officer-in-Charge (SNCOIC) of Recruiting Substation Bucks County where he was awarded SNCOIC of the Year for Fiscal Year 2014 for Recruiting Station Harrisburg.
In May of 2015, SSgt. Hackenberger checked in to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band in Cherry Point, North Carolina, where he served as the Percussion Section Leader, Supply Chief, and Acting-Instrument Repair Technician. In May of 2017, SSgt. Hackenberger graduated from Post University with his Bachelors of Science in Computer Information Systems – Software Development Management. SSgt. Hackenberger was promoted to his current rank of Gunnery Sergeant. In 2018, as well as selected for his current billet as Instrument Repair Technician.
In August of 2018, GySgt. Hackenberger reported to Minnesota State College - Southeast Technical to attend the Band Instrument Repair Program. He graduated the Band Instrument Repair Program in May of 2019 and was assigned as the Instrument Repair Technician at the Parris Island Marine Band on Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Following 3 successful years as the Instrument Repair Technician, GySgt Hackenberger was selected to serve in his current role as the Senior Enlisted Advisor and Bandmaster of the Parris Island Marine Band.
GySgt. Hackenberger’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation (2nd Award), Good Conduct Medal (4th award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
