Band Officer
Captain Eric K. Kyne

Captain Kyne enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina in 2003. Upon completion of training, Private First Class Kyne reported to the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2004.

Upon graduation of the Basic Music Course at the Naval School of Music, Lance Corporal Kyne went on to serve as saxophone instrumentalist with the Second Marine Aircraft Wing Band at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina.

Corporal Kyne deployed to Al Asad Air Base in 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as member of the guard for the Second Marine Aircraft Wing Tactical Air Command Center. Sergeant Kyne deployed again to Al Asad Air Base in 2007 where he served as the Provost Marshall’s Office Desk Sergeant.

In 2008, Sergeant Kyne transferred to the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California where he served as Platoon Sergeant, saxophone instrumentalist, and the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of the unit’s training section. He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in 2010 and returned to the Naval School of Music for follow on training.

Upon completion of the Unit Leader Course and Senior Musician Course, Staff Sergeant Kyne went on to serve as saxophone instrumentalist and Platoon Sergeant at the Quantico Marine Corps Band at Quantico, Virginia in 2012.

Staff Sergeant Kyne attended the Basic Recruiter Course in 2014 and was assigned as a Canvassing Recruiter for Recruiting Station Springfield, Recruiting Substation Hartford. In 2015, Staff Sergeant Kyne transferred to the First Marine Corps District in Garden City, New York to serve as Musician Technical Assistant to audition entry level musicians into the Marine Corps.

In 2017, Staff Sergeant Kyne checked in to the Marine Forces Pacific Band in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. The following year, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and was selected as the 2018 Staff Noncommissioned Marine Musician of the Year by Headquarters Marine Corps.

Warrant Officer Kyne was appointed on February 1st, 2019, where he served as the Officer in Charge of the Marine Forces Reserve Band. In 2022, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kyne reported to the Blue Diamond where he currently serves as the Officer in Charge of the First Marine Division Band. On February 1st, 2024, he commissioned to his current rank.

Captain Kyne’s decorations and service awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Gold Star in lieu of third award; Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star; Navy Unit Commendation; Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star in lieu of fifth award; National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Medal; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with Bronze Star; and the Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
